John Gibney's current interest lies in working with dynamic aspects of groups and systems. Whether the living system is the human body, a couple/family or an organisation, they share some fundamental elements regarding belonging, order and a balance of exchange—concepts introduced by Bert Hellinger in his family constellation work which also apply to organisations.
This parallels advances in understanding the role of the body in our ability to communicate and connect with others and ourselves. The Felt Sense, Polyvagal Method (FSPM) is a useful tool to assist people to be fully present in their body and to tap their interoception (somatic awareness of the body), which links strongly to the current practice of the Post-Bionic Field Therapy Approach of Psychoanalysis that works very much on "Somatic Transference" and shared dream thoughts between client and analyst.
John believes there is a world of work involved in applying current knowledge and practice in psychoanalysis, Internal Family Systems, FSMP and constellations into the Group Relations and NIODA space. That's the dialogue that excites him as he works to establish groups locally in the Southern Highlands NSW through a programme to "Learn to Hear Your Body Talk" in groups.
