About

Resourcing people and organisations with the tools to uncover what’s really going on

NIODA is an international centre of excellence in systems psychodynamics - offering postgraduate education, consulting and research that helps leaders, groups, organisations and systems to think more clearly and act more courageously in complex times.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

We exist to advance the understanding and practice of systems psychodynamics — a discipline that explores both the visible and invisible forces shaping organisational life. Our work supports leaders, teams, and systems to develop insight, grow capacity, and create meaningful, sustainable change. “Real change begins when we slow down enough to notice what’s really going on.” – Dr Brigid Nossal

What is Systems Psychodynamics

An approach that blends psychoanalytic thinking, group relations, and systems theory to reveal the unconscious forces shaping behaviour, culture, power, and change in organisations—what’s really driving what you see on the surface.

Why Systems Psychodynamics?

Because strategy fails when hidden dynamics run the show. Working psychodynamically helps leaders spot stuck patterns, navigate role and authority tensions, and intervene where change actually takes hold.

The ability to positively impact on an organisation's culture, structure and decision making

Working with conscious & unconscious phenomena in organisational life and its effects

Exploring & working with complexity to manage work-related anxiety and think through turbulence

Affords the possibility of increased creativity, productivity & sustainability in organisations

Supports individuals and groups to stay with, rather than defend against, organisational complexity

Our Vision

We are an international centre of excellence advancing systems psychodynamics and making an impact on the world of work.

Our Purpose

Providing education in systems psychodynamics and advancing the field through leading edge research and development for the improvement of organisations, community and society.

Our Values

Openness

We challenge ourselves to be open and transparent in all our relationships.

Collaboration

We aim for collaborative relations and relationships in all our endeavours. We understand that this takes thought and effort - dialogue that works things through to a point where differences (of ideas, opinions and beliefs) can not only be tolerated, but can usefully co-exist to produce new ways of thinking and doing.

Respect

All our constructive work relations rely upon mutual respect - this includes respect for diversity and commitment to our Reconciliation Action Plan.

Reflection

We value reflection as a process of making space and time to consider, thoughtfully and with curiosity, the current realities of the organisation, its context, the people affected by it and the unconscious dynamics.

Creativity

We value creativity and curiosity as a powerful resource in all that we do, underpinned by pursuit of the primary task/s.

Ethical conduct

We uphold the highest integrity standards: in learning and teaching, research, consulting and scholarship activities, in decision making and in governance and operations.

Quality

We are attentive to detail and strive to be thorough, diligent and rigorous to ensure high quality outcomes to enable a sustainable future.
