Experience, background and philosophy
Professor Emerita Jan Allen has worked in higher education, both in mainstreeam Universities and not for profit providers of higher education for over 30 years. She retired from her role as the Director at the MIECAT Institute in Melbourne, Australia, in 2019.
Jan now devotes much of her time to painting, as well as researching, writing, facilitating workshops, and supervising both doctoral candidates and their supervisors. She is connected to NIODA as an Academic Board member and the current Chairperson, and prior to that as a co-supervisor of doctoral candidates alongside NIODA academic staff. Her academic interests lie in post-qualitative research and practice. Within this framework, she is particularly fascinated by how collaborations can open up conversations—conversations in which previously ungraspable ideas and actions become possibilities for new ways of encountering each other and the world.
