Seminar 8 August 2018

Reflection is Action!

Considering cultural challenges for leaders and managers in the emergency services and trauma field.

In his seminar presentation ‘Reflection is Action’, Fred Wright will consider challenges to culture and behaviour in emergency services and trauma related work, using a systems psychodynamic framework.

Fred will present a working hypothesis that the social defences that exist to enable people to manage strong emotions evoked by this work can undermine the capacity to think.

Further he will argue that this hypothesis helps to explain the widespread prevalence of bullying and harassment across the emergency services field.

Fred Wright holds the position of Workplace Conciliator at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

Fred has over 35 years’ experience of public sector administration in a range of operational and senior management positions across justice, disability services and human rights portfolios.
